Hypnosis is a state of mind that allows you to make important changes in your behavior and thinking quickly. It feels like a deep, focused relaxation and is entered into with breathing and imagery. Once in the trance state, you can use the state to give yourself suggestions or the hypnotherapist can state the suggestions. Your mind accepts those that are beneficial to you. In the state of hypnosis, you accept the possibilities for change and it happens more quickly than in traditional therapy.
Hypnosis is effective for stress management, reduction of anxiety and depression, pain management, smoking cessation and weight control.
A hypnosis session involves a relaxation, then deepening of the relaxation, then suggestions. Most find the experience enjoyable and often wonder what the big deal is - until they see the impact on their lives.
When you enter hypnosis treatment, you can expect to have one or two sessions discussing your issues and an introduction to the process. Then depending upon the issue, one to three hypnosis sessions would follow. You would be expected to practice hypnosis at home for most effectiveness.
